Vulnerable

Vulnerable

The seal waddles to the sea
Both her salvation and her death.
Does she know at birth
that the water will be
The cradle of all her days?
Can she see the orca
That may cut her heart
In half?
And she crawls across the sand
Because she must
She will live a life
Or have her heart cut out
Today
In an instant
She doesn’t hesitate on the shore
Or try to live in a stream
She is vulnerable
to what fate awaits her
And plunges in.
