Beauty’s Sleep

Beauty’s Sleep

December 23

When Beauty’s heart was pierced
She crawled in bed and covered up
Destined to sleep alone in nightmares
Lost, confused and fierce.

The castle built strong with walls
Thick and steep to hold her in
And keep everyone out by
Certain death or threat of fall.

The moat around the wall was deep
And treacherous for anyone
Who tried to swim across its width
To find the Beauty fast asleep.

Guarded by a dreadful dragon
Flames and claws to destroy
Any who chanced to wake her up
Made travelers always pass quickly on.

Until the day a prince woke inside his keep
And slid out from beneath her bed
Inside the walls he’d been all along
To free her from unending sleep.
