Wild Thing

Wild Thing

A wild thing cannot live among us
With the house cats whose claws
Have been removed and debarked dogs
With groomer cut hair and sweaters.

She cannot be domesticated
And no matter how sweet her
Disposition, she will eventually
Rip out his throat even though
She loves him.

And some people will blame him
For loving a wildcat. And some people
Will say it’s just nature and you cannot
Tame a wild thing.

But the cat will know
That she could have chosen
Not to pounce.
Because even an ambush predator
Knows how to love.
