Of the four great elements, water, fire and wind are perennial sources of affliction, but the earth does not ordinarily trouble us.
He lies in wait all your life
Under your feet, a firm foundation.
When you fall to your knees,
in prayer or grief
He holds you up, salvation.
You build a house, you find a wife
Children run on the playground
Found with skills, talent and bills
You rely on your education.
drenched in rain,
Blasted by fire,
Poseidon’s rage a hurricane.
The earth seems grounded and certain.
Yet for all men’s souls
Earth opens up
And plays the final villain.
