The Ice Melts

The Ice Melts

As the ice melts around my heart
The footprints of last night remain
Offering memories of all that came before
And into time retained.

As the ice melts on the lake
The water starts to move
And takes the warmth from the sun
To build a current that soothes
The torrent in my soul
A place for time and space explains
The confluence of my past lives
And finds my thoughts unchanged.

As the ice melts on the pines
And drips its coldness on the ground
I find the footprints in my soul
Released from suffering unbound.
