Compelled by instinct
The salmon flies
Upstream
Against a current
So fierce it would pull
A grown man back.
The hardest feat
Of life on earth.
And as she flies,
Does she resent
The man taking his son
To fish in the stream
For something tasty
Who might
Rip her heart
From her body
If he catches her
On her way
To do what
she was born for.
