Dali

Dali

I recently received this from my Aunt Stafford. She’s talking about their family’s trips to New York where they stayed at the St. Regis Hotel. Her description reminds me that being an artist is about seeing more than it is about painting:

“We have a connection to Dali that you may not know about. He lived at the St. Regis Hotel (in New York) when we stayed there several years on trips after Thanksgiving.

He would sit in the lobby on a ridiculous little settee with his hands on his cane and disgusting mustache
(caked with wax!)

He didn’t seem to do or say anything, just watch.

His appearance was as strange as his paintings.

But what did I know?
I was a child and saw nightmares everywhere.”
