Charming

Charming

When you look at me like that
And you run your fingers
through your hair
Adjust yourself in your chair
Leaning back just so
As you clear your throat.
Your eyes cheat down
And you turn away
Like a schoolboy caught
Admiring his teacher
When he should be learning.

And you find a way
To say this is work
And I’m on the clock.

So I put my glasses on
And get serious
Crawling out of my heart and
Into my head
Playing the part of a woman
who stole your innocence
As your voice cracks
Again.
