I skipped ahead

I skipped ahead

I didn’t wait for you. I ran ahead. Skipped to the next section in my blue book. Jumped the gun. Failed to toe the line. I let you lag behind and I didn’t slow down or stop to smell the roses. I dove into the deep end and find myself far from the shallows. I started running without the baton. I skipped steps and didn’t show my work. I didn’t write an outline or a rough draft. There was no preflight checklist. I didn’t check the depth. I didn’t pack my own parachute. I jumped.

And I’m in love with you.

Without a safety net.

I should have waited for you.
Because you are worth that.
And so much more.

I thought you would call.
